Risperidone is an antipsychotic drug with significant antagonist activity at the 5-HT2 receptor and at the DA2 receptor.Research data indicate that it may be more effective than conventional antipsychotics at treating both the positive and the negative symptoms of schizophrenia and it is associated with significantly fewer and less severe neurological adverse effects than conventional antipsychotics. Additional studies of risperidone have shown that the drug is safe and generally welltolerated.
