Antidepressant-induced hypomanic/manic switch has been a controversial topic with regards to classification systems until the publication of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders – Fifth Edition (DSM-5). Studies have indicated the effectiveness of vortioxetine in the treatment of depression since 2012; however, there are no data on the risk of hypomanic/manic switch associated with vortioxetine. This aim of this case report was to present a case of hypomania induced by vortioxetine in a patient who had received selective serotoin reuptake inhibitors and venlafaxine several times in the past for the treatment of recurrent depression.
