Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic which has been recently submitted for clinical use in Turkey. Studies revealed that quetiapine is effective on the positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia and has less side effects compared to conventional antipsychotics. In this article 5 cases, who had been followed with diagnosis of schizophrenia for a long time and had acute exacerbation in positive symptoms during quetiapine treatment, are presented. In literature no articles about side effects of quetiapine were found. The possible reasons of this condition occurring in Turkey was discussed and a study on the pharmacokinetic properties of quetiapine based on this report is proposed.
Ketiapin sağaltımı sırasında şizofreninin pozitif belirtilerinde ortaya çıkan akut alevlenme: Beş olgunun sunumu
Ketiapin çok kısa bir süre önce Türkiyede kullanılama sunulmuş bir atipik antipsikotiktir. Yapılan çalışmalar ketiapinin şizofreninin pozitif ve negatif belirtileri üzerinde etkili olduğunu ve klasik antipsikotiklere göre, düşük yan etki profiline sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Burada uzun süredir şizofreni tanısıyla izlenen ve ketiapin sağaltımına başlandıktan sonra pozitif belirtilerde alevlenme ortaya çıkan 5 olgu sunulmaktadır. Literatür incelendiğinde ilaca ait bu tür bir yan etkinin bildirilmediği gözlenmektedir bu nedenle Tükiyeye ortaya çıkan bu durumun nedenlerinin ne olabileceği tartışılmış ve bu durumun ilacı farmakokinetik gellikleriyle ilgili ülkemizde yapılacak bir çalışmaya zemin oluşturması hedeflenmiştir.
