A large number of studies have indicated that suicidal ideation, as well as attempts, are linked to serotonin dysfunction. We carried out a study about the clinical effects of serotonin reuptake inhibitor fluvoxamine on suicidal ideation. 25 inpatients who met the DSM-III-R criteria for major depression (recurrent or single episode) and who had baseline ratings of 15 or higher points on the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale participated in the study. Fluvoxamine were given at daily doses of 150mg for 4 weeks.At the end of the fourth week fluvoxamine was found to be significantly effective in reducing mean scores of Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, Suicidal Ideation Scale and Hopelessness Scale.
Fluvoksamin'in intihar düşüncesi üzerine olan klinik etkisi
İntihar düşüncesi ve girişiminde serotonerjik işlevlerde bir bozukluk olduğunu gösteren çok çeşitli çalışmalar yapılmıştır.Biz de serotonin geri alım engelleyicisi olan fluvoksaminin intihar düşüncesi üzerine olan etkisini araştırdık. DSM-III-R tanı kriterlerine göre major depresif bozukluk (rekürren veya tek episod) tanısı alan ve 17 maddelik Hamilton Depresyon Ölçeğinden (HDÖ) en az 15 puan alan 25 yatan hasta çalışma kapsamına alındı. Hastalara 4 hafta boyunca 150mg/gün şuvoksamin tedavisi uygulandı. 4 haftanın sonunda İntihar Düşüncesi Ölçeği,Hamilton Depresyon Ölçeği, Ümitsizlik Ölçeği puanlarında belirgin bir azalma saptandı.
